The Danish Cancer Society is an old, restored hospital building located in the center of Copenhagen, only a half-hour of walk from Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid statue – the iconic symbols of the city. It is a unique example in the world of non-profit democratic organization aimed at fully support cancer patients, which involves more than 400,000 volunteers and almost 50,000 members. The Danish Cancer Society has also its own Research Center (hosted in the same building) where more than 200 researchers work within different cancer research areas, including basic and translational biological research, epidemiology and statistics.
The Danish Cancer Society is very easy to be reached by public transportation as it is only few minutes from train and metro stations directly connected to the international airport of Copenhagen.
1. Take A or E line of S-TOG (suburban trains) from the airport and stop at Østerport station
2. Take the Metro and get off at Trianglen station
3. Follow point 2 and 3 of Metro indications (as above reported)
2 bis. Walk for 1,5 Km in Strandboulevarden till the flags of the Danish Cancer Society head quarter
4. Walk for 800 m in Nordre Frihavnsgade and turn to the right in Strandboulevarden. 50 meter and see the flag of the Danish Cancer Society head quarter
